UCV Television is the channel of the Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaiso - and the oldest television station in Chile. Broadcasting from the port city, it reaches viewers on open digital television - 5.3 in Santiago, 4.3 in Gran Valparaiso, 9.3 in La Serena, 32.3 in Concepcion and 8.3 in Puerto Montt - and everywhere online, including those who watch TV online abroad.
On 5 October 1957 a group of researchers at the university's School of Electronics made the first television transmission in Chilean history, launching what became known as el primer canal de Chile. From experimental broadcasts the station grew into the country's pioneering network with its own national productions, and its modern heir, UCV TV, Chile's first open cultural channel, continues the tradition on digital, cable and streaming platforms.
From the first image to today
The grid mixes regional newscasts covering Valparaiso - a UNESCO-listed port and seat of Chile's Congress - with cultural magazines, university productions, documentaries and coverage of the city's famous New Year fireworks. Classic archive programmes recall the station's seven decades, keeping live television connected to national memory.
The port on every screen
The ucvtv.cl homepage carries the live player, and the UCV TV YouTube channel publishes newscasts and features daily, so the live streaming audience follows the channel across Chile and abroad.
