FTV Prima is one of the pillars of Czech commercial television, a nationwide broadcaster that has been part of the country's media landscape since 1993, when it first went on the air under the name FTV Premiéra. Three decades later it stands as the flagship channel of the FTV Prima holding, mixing home-grown entertainment, drama and journalism for millions of viewers, many of whom now follow it through live TV online rather than a classic aerial or cable box.

Three Decades on the Czech Airwaves

Launching a private station in the young Czech Republic of the early 1990s was a bold bet, and Prima grew with its audience, moving from imported shows to a schedule built increasingly around original Czech production. Over the years the holding expanded into a whole family of thematic sister channels, including the rolling-news service CNN Prima News, but the main Prima signal remains the group's centrepiece and its biggest shop window for new programming.

News, Drama and Evening Entertainment

The day opens with information blocks and builds toward prime time, where Czech series, comedy and reality formats take over the grid. The flagship newscast Zprávy FTV Prima delivers national and international headlines with the channel's own reporting teams, while weekends lean on family entertainment, films and studio shows that have made Prima a default evening choice in Czech households. Live television from the station also reaches screens through the iPrima streaming platform, which carries the broadcast for registered viewers.

For anyone who wants to watch FTV Prima online, the channel keeps its mix of serial drama, news and entertainment available well beyond the TV set, a familiar fixture of Czech viewing habits that has successfully followed its audience into the streaming era.
