SBS Australia is the nation's multicultural public broadcaster, a network built to serve communities in more than sixty languages through news, documentaries, drama and sport. For audiences who watch live TV online with an appetite beyond the mainstream, it has been the country's most distinctive screen for over four decades.

The story began with multilingual radio services in Sydney and Melbourne in 1975, and the television arm signed on in October 1980 under a charter to reflect the diversity of Australian society. The broadcaster has since grown into a family of TV channels, radio networks and a streaming platform, while NITV gives First Nations storytelling a national stage.

Sixty Languages, One National Screen

The daily lineup opens with world bulletins and current affairs, gives afternoons to food and travel series, and reserves primetime for documentaries, drama and foreign-language film screenings. Football remains a point of pride, from European leagues to the biggest international tournaments, and every May the network becomes the Australian home of the Eurovision Song Contest; cycling fans follow the Tour de France on online television each July.

From Dateline to the Kitchen Bench

The evening bulletin SBS World News draws on correspondents across the globe. Dateline, running since 1984, delivers international reporting and documentary films, the discussion forum Insight puts everyday Australians at the centre of national debates, and The Cook Up with Adam Liaw serves the network's gentler side at the kitchen bench.

SBS Australia live streaming keeps this blend of global journalism, cinema and sport within reach anywhere in the country and beyond. From a morning bulletin in Arabic or Mandarin to a late-night arthouse feature, the broadcaster remains the nation's window on the world.
