Al-Baghdadia TV is an independent Arabic-language satellite channel that has covered Iraq since 2005 from studios in Cairo, combining rolling news with open debate and social reporting for viewers at home and Iraqis abroad who watch TV online.

The channel was founded by Iraqi businessman Awn Alkhashlok and made its name in the volatile years after 2003, when few local outlets dared to criticize politicians or armed groups on air. Several of its journalists were killed covering the insurgency, yet the editorial line stayed uncensored. In December 2008 the station became known worldwide when its correspondent Muntadhar al-Zaidi threw his shoes at U.S. President George W. Bush during a Baghdad press conference.

Uncensored Iraq Around the Clock

Hourly bulletins track events in Baghdad, Basra and Mosul, while reporters file from the provinces and guest analysts frame the day's developments. Evenings belong to talk: the call-in program Al-Baghdadia Wal Nas opens the phone lines to ordinary Iraqis debating prices, services and security, and studio discussions put lawmakers face to face. Daytime hours soften the grid with cultural magazines and film screenings, and live television from the channel stays available in every time zone.

Investigations and Satire Beyond the News

Beyond daily bulletins, the station produces investigative reports and satirical segments that smaller Iraqi broadcasters rarely attempt, keeping a reputation for journalism that answers to viewers rather than parties. Special coverage appears whenever major political events or national occasions grip the country.

Today Al-Baghdadia TV live streaming carries that same mix of breaking news and flagship debate to any connected screen, keeping the Iraqi diaspora in step with events back home. A satellite dish is no longer required - only an internet connection.
