TRT 2: Turkey's culture and arts channel since 1993

TRT 2 is a thematic channel of the Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT) devoted to culture and the arts. Established in 1993, it was Turkey's first channel of its kind, created to promote the country's cultural heritage and to give viewers a serious alternative to general entertainment.

The schedule includes documentaries, films, series, music programmes and talk shows, alongside children's programming. Regular strands explore literature, history and art through interviews with experts, follow current affairs in Turkey, look at cinema and present traditional Turkish music in its many forms.

TRT 2 also works as an educational platform, with programmes on language learning, painting and photography techniques. Special broadcasts mark national holidays, showing the traditions and customs connected with each occasion across the country, which makes it one of the most respected cultural channels in Turkey.

Recurring features give the channel its character: discussions of architecture, theatre and visual art, reports from festivals and exhibitions across Turkey, and portraits of writers, composers and craftsmen whose work shaped the country. The emphasis on heritage and creativity makes the schedule suitable for families, students and anyone interested in the arts.
