Elhiwar Ettounsi is a Tunisian private television channel that has grown from a dissident satellite project into one of the country's defining broadcasters. For viewers who watch live TV across Tunisia and the Maghreb diaspora, it remains a central arena for national conversation.

The channel was launched in 2003 by Tahar Ben Hassin, broadcasting without a licence from Paris with political programmes critical of the Ben Ali government. After the 2011 revolution it obtained official authorisation from the national audiovisual authority, and by March 2015 it had become the most-watched television in Tunisia with an audience share of more than a quarter of all viewers.

A Private Voice at the Heart of Tunisian Debate

The grid revolves around news bulletins, political debate and current affairs, carried over Nilesat to audiences across North Africa and Europe. Around the talk formats sit entertainment series, comedy, sport and cultural programmes, so the lineup moves easily between the serious and the light throughout the day.

Talk Shows That Set the Agenda

The channel's reputation rests on its conversation programmes. Labes brings celebrities and public figures into a relaxed studio setting, while Sans Filtres stages uncensored debates that regularly dominate discussion in Tunisia the morning after they air.

Elhiwar Ettounsi live streaming keeps that debate open to anyone who follows Tunisian television online, delivering the channel's talk, news and entertainment to screens far beyond the country's borders.
