TV Alerj is the legislative television channel of the State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, founded in 2004 as the broadcast arm of the Legislative Assembly. Its purpose is transparency: to show citizens exactly what their deputies do, which makes it a distinctive destination for anyone who prefers to watch live TV with a civic purpose rather than pure entertainment.

Operating around the clock on cable and digital terrestrial television in Rio de Janeiro, the channel turns the daily work of parliament into open programming. Ordinary, extraordinary and solemn plenary sittings go out live, and the same treatment extends to committee meetings, public hearings and the parliamentary inquiry commissions known as CPIs.

Democracy in Session, On the Air

The grid follows the rhythm of the assembly itself. When the house sits, the cameras roll; between sittings, the channel fills the day with interviews and analysis that explain the bills moving through committees. Recordings of earlier sessions and special coverage of hearings keep the timetable useful even outside sitting hours, and every broadcast reinforces the idea that legislative work belongs in public view.

From the Plenary Floor to Public Debate

The core of the broadcast is the live transmission of plenary sessions, where votes and speeches unfold without editing. Around them sit journalistic programs that profile deputies, break down legislation and give viewers the context behind each decision, alongside debates and audience-driven formats that bring civil society closer to the chamber.

With TV Alerj live streaming, the work of Rio's state parliament is open to anyone with an internet connection, and online television becomes a practical tool for following public life as it happens.
