CCTV-3 - Zongyi, the Variety Channel - is the arts and entertainment service of China Central Television, the state broadcaster of the People's Republic of China. Broadcasting in Mandarin from Beijing, it is followed across the country and by viewers abroad who watch TV online.
The channel began on 1 January 1986 as CCTV's third programme, specialising from the start in music, dance and stage entertainment. It grew into the network's flagship for gala productions - including its role in the Spring Festival Gala, the most-watched television event on Earth - and in talent formats that made household names of amateur performers.
Variety, the Chinese way
The grid features long-running national formats: the talent show Avenue of Stars (Xingguang Dadao), the game show Open the Door (Kaimen Daji), Very 6+1, Golden 100 Seconds (Huangjin 100 Miao) and Yue Zhan Yue Yong. The cultural formats My Art List and Set Out for Happiness broaden the mix, while music specials, dance galas and the arts magazine China Literary and Art Report complete the live television day.
Chinese variety worldwide
The official live page tv.cctv.com/live/cctv3 streams the channel in high definition, and the CCTV YouTube channel publishes show highlights, so the live streaming audience follows Chinese variety from anywhere in the world.
