RTVD Canal 17 is the cultural and educational signal of the Corporacion Estatal de Radio y Television, the state broadcaster of the Dominican Republic, transmitting from Santo Domingo. Part of a media family that reaches back to the dawn of Caribbean television, it speaks to viewers who follow live television with an appetite for knowledge rather than pure spectacle.

The corporation's roots run deep: Dominican television began in August 1952, when La Voz Dominicana signed on as one of the first TV services in all of Latin America. That pioneering operation was reorganized over the decades into today's state corporation, and Channel 17 now carries its public-service mission, promoting national culture, history and learning to audiences on the island and abroad.

A Schedule Built Around Culture

Daytime hours favor educational programming developed with universities and public institutions, from academic lectures to school-friendly series. Later in the day the grid opens up to cultural documentaries on Dominican history, art and folklore, joined by music sessions, reports on national celebrations and replays that fill out the timetable.

Windows Into Dominican Life

Among the most enjoyed moments on air are live concerts and festival broadcasts that bring merengue, bachata and classical performance into ordinary homes. Interviews with artists, scholars and community leaders add context, turning the channel into a quiet archive of the country's creative life.

For Dominicans abroad and curious viewers everywhere, RTVD Canal 17 live streaming through the corporation's RTVD Clic platform keeps this corner of online television within easy reach - heritage, music and learning, one click away.
